Platform fees, service fees, and owner payouts.
These terms explain how Rimu Tools commission, renter service fees, payout adjustments, taxes, and payment processing costs may apply to rentals made through the platform.
1. Platform Commission
When an Owner successfully rents an item through the Platform, the Platform will deduct a commission from the rental price before paying the Owner.
Unless otherwise stated, the Platform commission is 20% of the rental price.
The Owner will receive the remaining 80% of the rental price, less any additional deductions, charges, refunds, payment processing costs, taxes, penalties, or other amounts that may apply under these Terms.
2. Renter Service Fee
In addition to the rental price set by the Owner, the Renter may be charged a service fee at checkout.
The Renter service fee helps cover the cost of operating the Platform, including secure payments, user verification, customer support, dispute handling, platform maintenance, and other marketplace services.
The Renter service fee will be shown to the Renter before the rental is confirmed.
3. Example of Fees
For example, if an Owner lists an item for $100 per day:
- the Platform may deduct a 20% commission, being $20;
- the Owner would receive $80, subject to any further applicable deductions; and
- the Renter may also pay a separate service fee, which will be displayed before checkout.
This example is provided for explanation only. The actual amount payable by the Renter and the actual payout to the Owner may vary depending on the rental price, service fees, payment fees, taxes, refunds, discounts, penalties, or other applicable charges.
4. Fee Changes
The Platform may change its commission, service fees, payment fees, or other charges from time to time.
Any applicable fees will be displayed before a rental is confirmed. By confirming a rental, the Renter and Owner agree to the fees shown at the time of confirmation.
Fee changes will not apply retrospectively to rentals that have already been confirmed, unless required by law or expressly stated in these Terms.
5. Owner Payouts
Owner payouts will be made using the payment method supported by the Platform.
The Platform may withhold, delay, reduce, or cancel an Owner payout where reasonably necessary, including where:
- a rental is cancelled;
- a refund is issued to the Renter;
- there is a dispute between the Renter and Owner;
- the item is not provided as described;
- the item is unavailable at the agreed time;
- the Owner has breached these Terms;
- suspected fraud, misuse, or unlawful activity has occurred;
- payment has not been successfully received from the Renter; or
- the Platform is required to do so by law.
6. Refunds and Cancellations
If a rental is cancelled, refunded, or partially refunded, the Platform may adjust the Owner payout and Platform fees accordingly.
The Platform may retain some or all of its service fees where permitted under these Terms, including where work has already been performed by the Platform or where costs have already been incurred.
Any refund, cancellation, or payout adjustment will be handled in accordance with the Platform's cancellation, refund, and dispute policies.
7. Taxes
Owners are responsible for understanding and meeting their own tax obligations arising from rentals made through the Platform.
The Platform does not provide tax, accounting, or financial advice. Owners should seek independent advice if they are unsure about their obligations.
Where required by law, the Platform may collect, deduct, report, or remit taxes, levies, or other charges in connection with rentals made through the Platform.
8. No Circumvention of Platform Fees
Renters and Owners must not use the Platform to find, contact, or arrange a rental with another user and then complete that rental outside the Platform in order to avoid Platform fees.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- asking another user to pay in cash outside the Platform;
- sharing contact details for the purpose of avoiding Platform payment systems;
- arranging repeat rentals outside the Platform after first connecting through the Platform; or
- otherwise attempting to bypass the Platform's booking, payment, fee, or protection systems.
If a user breaches this clause, the Platform may suspend or terminate their account, cancel current rentals, withhold payouts, charge applicable fees, or take any other action reasonably necessary to protect the Platform and its users.
9. Payment Processing Costs
Payment processing costs, bank charges, chargeback fees, currency conversion fees, failed payment fees, or other third-party payment costs may be deducted from amounts payable to the Owner or charged to the Renter where applicable.
The Platform is not responsible for delays, fees, or failures caused by third-party payment providers, banks, card issuers, or financial institutions.
10. Final Fee Display
Before a rental is confirmed, the Platform will display the key amounts payable, including the rental price and any applicable service fees.
By confirming the rental, the Renter agrees to pay the displayed amount, and the Owner agrees to receive the payout calculated according to these Terms.
